Get Setting (Deprecated)
cloudposse/github-action-atmos-get-setting is deprecated. Use atmos list settings --query to extract a setting across stacks, or atmos describe component --query to read a single setting from one component/stack, directly in your workflow — no wrapper action needed.
The Atmos Get Setting GitHub Action retrieved a single setting, or a group of settings, from Atmos configuration and exposed them as GitHub Action outputs.
Native CI Equivalent
- name: Read a setting
run: |
{
delimiter="$(dd if=/dev/urandom bs=15 count=1 status=none | base64)"
echo "value<<$delimiter"
atmos describe component vpc -s plat-ue2-prod --query .settings.some_key
echo "$delimiter"
} >> "$GITHUB_OUTPUT"
The multiline delimiter form handles any setting value safely, including ones with embedded newlines — a plain value=$(...) assignment can silently split into multiple $GITHUB_OUTPUT records if the query result isn't a single-line scalar. Generate the delimiter per-write from random bytes (rather than a fixed string like EOF) so a setting value that happens to contain a line matching the delimiter can't prematurely close it. dd/base64 are available in the Atmos container's debian:trixie-slim base without installing anything extra — uuidgen would require the uuid-runtime package, which isn't installed there.
Use --query to pull a single value out of a component/stack, or atmos list settings --query to compare the same setting across every stack in a table.
